Do You Find Yourself with a Constant Lack of Energy?
Our digestive system plays a huge part in our overall health. It breaks down the food we eat and absorbs the nutrients, allowing our bodies to grow and repair. Our digestive system also plays a huge part in our immune system, for it is lined with millions of microbes, what we call "friendly bacteria", which help to combat harmful things that we ingest with our meals. Gastro-intestinal (GI) health, or gut health, is essential to our health and well-being.
So, what is it that makes our digestive system work properly? It's our nervous system. There's a part of our nervous system called the AUTONOMIC nervous system. This system controls things like our heart rate, temperature control, breathing, and of course, our digestive tract. If you think about it, all these systems are controlled by the parts of our brain that we are not consciously aware of. Yet, our body knows exactly what to do after we have that wonderful meal. Our nervous system tells it to secrete enzymes to break down the food. It allows for the nutrients to be absorbed. It stimulates the smooth muscle to push the food content through the intestinal tract and eventually be eliminated as waste. These are all critical functions of our body that we don't even have to think about, and it's all controlled by our nervous system.
Things like bad posture, injuries to our spine, stress, and ergonomic issues can create problems with our nervous system. Very often, misalignment of our spine can put an abnormal stress on our nervous system. We call this condition a SUBLUXATION. If the spine is subluxated, it can alter the very same nerves that go to our digestive tract, causing a disruption in our gut.
Have you or anyone you know experienced problems such as bloating, heartburn, acid reflux, constipation, or diarrhea? These conditions can all be due to interference of our nervous system. A good chiropractic evaluation can detect these subluxations, and with appropriate chiropractic adjustments, restore the normal nerve function to our gut.
